self care sunday - tips and ideas.

Good afternoon wonderful people! Self-care is such an important concept that is slowly becoming more normalized and promoted in the social media world, and I love it. I think it’s such a vital part of feeling your best self, but with the emphasis on productivity our society seems to enjoy, it can kind of get lost or deemed unimportant on the to-do list. And I’m guilty of this too, but because self-care is something I enjoy (as it should be) over the past few years I’ve gotten a lot more into it.

I think it’s also important to recognize that self-care isn’t always super aesthetic and fun things. It’s sometimes about getting real with yourself. Doing what needs to be done, no matter how difficult, and no matter how much you don’t want to do it.

Doing that homework or writing that essay simply because it needs to get done. Making your bed simply because it makes you feel more put together. Going for that run simply because you want to be healthy.

Doing something even if it won’t be fun (or even if it will), because no matter what it is, it’ll make you feel better in the long run. That’s what I’ve come to believe self-care is.

So in this blog post, I thought I’d write about some ideas for self-care activities - both practical and just for enjoyment. I’ve had a super chill weekend, and have done a bunch of these up till now - it was much needed and lovely. Having a relaxed few days every now and then is necessary, especially if you’ve been anything but. So let’s get to it! :)

— mindless activities —

Especially if you make on of these a cozy morning/afternoon/night, it can be really relaxing and fun. Last Friday night, I filled up a container of popcorn, turned on just a lamp by my window for some mood lighting, and watched Kissing Booth 2! I must say, that was actually pretty good. It wasn’t groundbreaking or anything, but that’s not why I watched it. It was just a sweet romance, in which the characters are real, likeable people. They’re not perfect by any means, but I don’t like characters who are. I like the ones who are real and flawed and human, because that’s life. So yes long story short I enjoyed this one lol. I switched to my bed after a time, and it was such a cozy night!

- watch a movie -

- binge a tv series -

- colour & music -

- read a cheesy romance -

-reread your childhood fave -

- paint your nails -

— inspiration/enjoyment —

If you’ve been feeling down as of late, or just uninspired to do much, taking time to do one of these can be great. Just letting yourself be inspired again, whether that be doing something that makes you feel like yourself or reading inspiring words, really helps me feel my best again. I usually try and do one of the following things:

- partake in one of your fave hobbies -

- play an instrument -

- scroll through Pinterest -

listen to a playlist of your fave songs -

watch youtube -

take some photos -

- hang out with friends/family (or just giving them a call!) -

— practical —

Do one of these but make it fun! Put on a cozy playlist (I usually use ‘cozy acoustic morning’ on spotify), your coziest clothes, and pretend like you’re in a novel. Or, put on your nicest clothes, blast a few pump up songs, and just get it done!

- make your bed -

- luxurious shower -

- do the homework you’ve been putting off -

- unpack the clothes you haven’t yet -

- cook a nice, healthy meal -

- drink some water -

- write it out -

- workout -

- go for a walk -

We got this. I know the world is a scary place right now, but let’s just take it one day at a time. Whatever you’re going through right now just know I’m here for you. Try some of these self-care tips, and remember, you’re doing your best and your best is enough. Take care of yourself, do what you need to do, and everything will be okay in the end. <3

I’ll see you Tuesday. :)
