Starwars review!

HI! So, I guess this could count as a new thing...I went to see the new Starwars the other day, so I thought I'd give my opinion on it :) It was actually really, really good. Now, keep in mind, I'm not the biggest Starwars fan. I mean, I enjoy the movies and think they're good...but when you're made to watch the six other starwars movies in the couple weeks leading up to the release of the new one...well let's just say, you're likely to bail after the fifth, because it's 10 hours of the similar plot, over and over and over. I don't want anyone to take offence to this though, as it's just my opinion...but yeah. So I wasn't expecting much, but it was actually really, really good! We saw it in 3D...I could have done without the 3D part, as it was a bit distracting from the action when planes were zooming out from behind you...but I guess that helped with the intensity. Many of the original characters and actors were back, which was super cool.

Survive Boxing Day Like A Pro

HI! So a few days ago, I went Boxing Day shopping for the first time. I wasn't really sure what to expect, but it was actually quite fun. I've put together some tips and tricks for next year, from both seasoned shoppers and beginners, to help you (and the future me) navigate Boxing Day like a pro. 1) Do your research. Find a few stores you for sure want to hit, and make them a priority. Find out when they open, and what sales they have, beforehand. Then, you're prepared. 2) Either go really early (as in 6am, if that's when the store opens) or really late (as in 12 or 1 in the afternoon). That way you'll miss the crowds, and won't have to wait in line. 3) If you're going to wait in line, make sure the sale is worth it. If the item is really expensive, and the sale is 5% or even 10% off, it might not be worth the wait, especially if the line is 2 hours long. However, if the item is really expensive, and it's, say, 70% off, plus another free item..

Top 10 Favourite movies

Hi guys!!! So...this is a post about my favourite movies. As a side note, I went to see the new starwars movie today with my family, so look out for a review on that! I'll probably put one up sometime soon. The holidays have been super busy for me, so I haven't gotten much time to write, unfortunately. However, I've seen quite a few movies with various people over my holiday, so I decided that a cool post for today would be my favourite movies. Now, this will be difficult for me, as I've seen and watched so many, but I'm going to try my best. Okay, here goes: 1) The entire Harry Potter series. Okay, I know what you're thinking. C'mon, Iris, really? A series? You said top ten MOVIES not SERIES. I know, I know. But there are 8 movies and that would take up 8 spots, and I have many more movies that I enjoy. Therefore this will count as one. And if you don't like this series...shame on you. Haha, if you couldn't tell, I'm a MAJOR fan of the har

My Top Ten Happy Things :)

Image
So, this isn't a post about something new...but it's just a fun one. So for today, I'm going to list the top ten things that make happy, no matter what mood I'm in! 1) Being with friends/family. Even just talking with them usually gets me in a good mood pretty quickly. I forget about my problems and just lose myself in the conversation. 2) Reading a book. Now I know for some people this won't work, but for me it does. It always has, I guess 'cause I can just forget about what I was upset about and just lose myself in the book. Just make sure that the book isn't going to make you cry, 'cause that doesn't really improve your mood. 3) Listening to music. This usually does the same as books for me. Singing along usually makes it even better :-) 4) Being with my cat. Her purr could make anyone's day ten times better, so cuddling with her definitely helps. 5) Playing music. I play guitar, piano, and cla

Musical!

Hey guys! So, I haven't posted in a REALLY long time...almost 3 months!...and I feel really bad about that. Is anyone even going to read this, since I haven't posted in so long? To anyone who does, THANK YOU!!! You're the best. Seriously. I haven't really been trying many new things, mostly just been going through the routine. Which is kinda bad...so I'll try to find more new things...but I think I'll also do a few other posts, about lifestyle and just life in general, things like that. So this will still be a blog about trying new things, but I'll post other things as well, so that I can post more often. An update on field hockey: the season is over now, but it was actually super fun. I really enjoyed it and want to do it again next year! I just have to get a little bit better...since I was NOT the best player on the team by far. I was probably one of the worst but you know what? It's okay. It was still fun, and that's what counts. I even got to h

Field Hockey!

HEY GUYS!! So...I have been MIA for awhile...and I'm VERY sorry. Things have just gotten so busy, and I keep telling myself I'll post...but I never do. I think I'll keep posting to when I do something new though, not every week. I don't like to make promises I can't keep. Sorry about that though :( Anyways. Recently, I've had the chance to join a field hockey team...and I'm actually really enjoying it. Now, I know what most people say: Field hockey. Isn't that just ice hockey on a field? But NO!!! It isn't. At all, actually. For one, field hockey is actually quite civilized. If you turn your back on your opponent, that's a foul, or 'obstruction'. There can be no more than one person against another at a time. That's called 'third party'. Sticks can't hit against sticks. That's 'hacking'. And the ball can't hit your feet in any way, shape, or form. So, it's actually quite cool!! But don

90 Day Challenge!

HALLO! So, for this week, I decided to write about something I'm taking part in: The 90 Day Challenge. Now, I'm not doing it to the point where I submit my story to win money or anything (find out more here ), I'm not that hardcore. However, I am trying for 90 days straight of a fitness activity (such as working out) each day. So I've been doing it for about 5 days so far, and really, I'm rockin' it! Usually I'll go swim several lengths, or workout for an hour or so. Most often it has been working out, because that means I get to watch TV too. Really, there is no downside to that. I mean, usually people are worried about sitting down for too long while watching TV...but if you're working out...you don't have to worry about that! Does anyone else do this or am I the only one? Anyways, the 90 Day challenge has been great so far - and if you are thinking about doing it as well I highly encourage you to do so. You don't have to do it formally, by

Fitbit Review!

Hi guys! First off, I am so, so, so sorry I haven't posted in three weeks. It's just been so busy, and whenever there's a good time to post, I'm not in wifi :( BUT I'm posting now! So...on with the post! Recently, I got a Fitbit Charge HR. I just wanted to let you guys know how this is going, and give my review on it so far. As well, this counts as a new thing as I'm quite new to the Fitbit :) So, let's start! The Fitbit is a tracking device which tracks your exercise stats (such as number of steps, calories burned, flights climbed, hours slept, your heart rate, etc...different fitbits track different things though). You wear mine as a wristband (there is also a couple that are clips), and then sync it to your computer at the end of the day. When you first get your fitbit, you sign up on fitbit.com, and then whenever you sync it to your laptop, it puts all the stats on your dashboard. It's a really great way to keep track of your health, I think. M

Flashback week - Making Cootie Catchers!

Hey guys! So I'm going to do one of these weeks every now and then - a flash back week. It'll basically be something that I haven't done in awhile, that I did when I was younger, so it's like it's 'new'. And it'll also be something that I think other people probably also did when they were younger. Also, I'm so so so sorry I didn't post on Sunday as usual...but anyways. ON WITH THE POST! I don't know about you guys, but when I was younger I absolutely loved making what we called 'cootie catchers' or 'fortune tellers'. I don't know what it was about them, maybe it was the fact that such a cool contraption was made of a simple piece of paper, or maybe I just liked controlling other people's future. But I always really enjoyed creating them. So for this week, I decided to make a few and try them out, sharing my experience and fun with you guys. To make one, you can either print off a template or make your own! You make

RANDOM FUN STUFF-DRAW A STICKMAN!

Be creative every day. This is the message at the end of your stick man's journey. Ah, but this is just the beginning! First, I am so, so sorry I am late in posting...I've been so busy! For this week, I decided to go for a more fun new thing, that everyone can try. I went to drawastickman.com. This is a website which allows you to create your own stick-person, and take it on a journey of its own! You can see your stick-person come to life, and as it goes along it asks you to draw things in so that it can defeat the mighty dragons, beasts, or whatever may come its way. And the best part is? You don't even have to be an amazing artist! I know that some of my drawings weren't the best - one ladder rung was crooked at the top, and my key did not look the best either - but the cheerful stickman I created didn't judge. He still used them to the best of his ability. On the contrary, you can also be as creative and elaborate as you like. I even saw one person who'd draw

The Versatile Blogger Awards!

Hey guys! So, normally, I wouldn't do 2 posts in one day...but I have been nominated for the versatile blogger awards by Just A Bubble !! This was very exciting news for me, as I'm new to blogging, and I wasn't expecting it at all! So thank you so much :) If you get the chance, you should for sure check her out, I personally love her blog :) So, if you are nominated for this award, you are supposed to thank the person who nominated you, include 7 things about yourself for them in the post, and nominate 15 blogs that you recently found or regularly follow. So first, I'll do 7 things about myself: 1) I am a MAJOR cat lover. Cats are amazing! 2) I love to write. I write anything from fiction to blogs to poetry, I just love writing in general. 3) My favourite colour is blue. 4) I love listening to music. I do it all the time. 5) I love playing music as well. I just love music in general! 6) I am a very happy, optimistic person. I think being happy is the best way t

Lifestyle: Try a new sport (cricket)

Earlier this year, I had the chance to join a cricket team for players who were new to the game. I had never really played cricket, and I thought it would be cool. I joined the team, and it was super fun! The rules were a bit like baseball. There are 2 batters, who are on opposite sides of the pitch. One is batting, while the other gets ready to run. There’s also a bowler, who throws the ball to the batter. However, we had to learn a specific way to bowl – it involved a straight arm, which was tricky. Our throws were off at first, not going anywhere near the batter, but eventually we began to get the hang of it. Batting was also something we had to learn, and it wasn't as easy as it sounds. You have to be in a certain position, ready to block and hit as many balls as you can. There are also fielders, however, the majority of our practices were spent on how to bat and bowl. We practiced every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. The times weren't always specific, som

Lifestyle Week - No Sugar!

For this week, I'm going to be doing a lifestyle challenge. Basically, I'm going to try and go a week without sugar. We'll see how this goes! DAY 1: I have a confession. I started the day off by forgetting that I wasn't going to have any sugar...and promptly put some brown sugar in my oatmeal. But to my defense, oatmeal isn't the same without brown sugar! And I did put walnuts in as well...which are very good for you. They made my breakfast a little healthier, right? As for the rest of the day, I refused a cookie, some delicious sugared strawberries, and my grandmother's rice pudding! That one was VERY hard. You gotta take pride in the small things, right? DAY 2: Again, I forgot about the no sugar...I had a jam and peanut butter bagel sandwich. About halfway through I realized jam had sugar in it! Darn. I haven't had any more sugar today though, so I'm glad about that. Hopefully tomorrow will be better with no sugar! DAY 3: Sugarless and pro

Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to my blog! As a writer, I know that finding inspiration for my stories can be a bit tricky at times. When you need ideas, they never seem to come! In fact, it's a bit like automatic flushing toilets. I don't know how it is for everybody else (maybe it's just me!) but the toilets always seem to flush when you DON'T want them to, and at the most inopportune moments. But then, when you need them to flush, they never seem to work! It's a bit like finding inspiration because when you don't need to find it, it just comes to you! But then, when you have writer's block and you NEED that inspiration, it just disappears like it was never there in the first place. This is why I decided to create this blog: Get Up And Out. It's all about trying new things, and perhaps finding some inspiration along the way. Did you know that trying new things challenges your brain, and helps to prevent Alzheimer's? Plus, it can be super fun as well. I'll
