Life in Canoes - A Metaphor

Image
Hey peeps! It's Sunday...so I'm back! This weekend, I was really lucky and had the chance to go up to a lodge and do some canoeing, hiking, and just being outside in nature with my family. I really, really enjoyed it (as I always do) and it really gave me some time to think. In light of this, I'd like to share with you all a metaphor I came up with this year, about canoes and life. So let's get into it :) Life is like a canoe. You're in the bow, or the stern (depending on whether it's lake or river canoeing haha), and you are steering yourself wherever you would like to go. Wherever the bow of the canoe is pointing, that's your direction. At any point, any action you take has the power to change your whole course. You might get off track , wanting to take a picture of a bird or making some decisions that perhaps weren't the best. But you always have the option to get back on your feet and keep moving. It's 1% what happens to you and 99% how you...

In My Thoughts - Sarahah

HELLOOOO!! How are you all? Okay so recently, this app, or website, Sarahah, has been going viral. I keep seeing snapstories of people linking them, and around the internet people responding to them, so I finally decided to look at it and see what it was. NO, I did not get one. I just looked it up on google haha. For those who don't know, Sarahah is this anonymous messaging app where, in their words, you can, at work, "enhance your areas of strength" and "strengthen areas for improvement" with feedback from your coworkers, and you can, in terms of friendship, "improve your friendship by discovering your strengths and areas for improvement" and "let your friends be honest with you". Now, see, here's my issue with that. WHY on EARTH do we need an anonymous messaging app to be honest????? Can't we just say what we want to say to people's faces? If you can't say something to someone's face, why is it okay to hide behind a ...

Thoughts On: Beauty Standards

Image
Hey all! Sorry I didn't post this yesterday - I literally cleaned the entire day. We had brunch in the morning, got home around 12:30ish, and then from 1-11pm...I cleaned out my room. I'm redoing a little bit of it so I had to clean out those parts haha. If you guys want a room tour when I am finished, lmk in the comments!! I'm super excited for how it's going to look:) ANYWHO. When you're done reading this post, let me know your opinion in the comments below! I'd love to hear it. LET'S GET INTO IT! :))) For this post, I thought I'd share my thoughts with you on a certain word. This word is one that is widely used, and not for the right reasons. The word? Ugly. I don't particularly care for this word, as I feel it brings negative connotations to phrases where there shouldn't be any. I've been seeing it used a LOT lately, with hashtags such as #growingupugly, or #uglypeople. And these are POPULAR hashtags too! When we call people...

3 Life Lessons That Can Be Learned From Harry Potter

HELLOOO!! Sorry this is late again  :( but ladies and gents, in light of the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter that happened last week, I bring to you...life lessons from Harry Potter!!  1.  true friendship wins over everything, so be loyal. Examples of this: fights that the three have (such as Ron and hermione in the Goblet of Fire), and all of their loyalty in pretty much every book, since they always come out alive in the end! Stay true to your friends who will stick with you till the end.  2.  believe in yourself and you'll do it. Harry had no idea how to get the Philosophers stone from quirrel/Voldemort, but he believed in himself and in the end, he did! He was also the youngest seeker in like half a century for quidditch, but he never doubted himself and he became an amazing quidditch player! Never doubt your capability, cause you can do ANYTHING you put your mind to.  3.  when in doubt, go to the library ...

Spontaneity

Guess who's back? Back again? Iris is back! Tell a friend! (Lowkey had to look up the rest of the lyrics cause I didn't even know what the song was called. Solid. Google had my back on that one!) But yeah! If you couldn't tell, I'M BACK! ON SUMMER VACAY YO! I'm honestly so excited. This summer is gunna be fun, productive, and amazing! Part of why I am so excited is that I am finally in control of my life, and it's a great feeling. I'll spare you all the details, but basically there were certain courses that I was mandated to take but I didn't find interesting, and I really struggled in them, meaning they took up a LOT of my time in order to do well. However, I put in the time, so that next year, I am able to take only the courses I want to take, and am genuinely interested in. I am SO pumped, you have no idea. So now, I feel much more in control of my life. BUT ANYWAYS. That's not the point of this post. Today I wanted to talk to you all abou...

My Fitness Routine 2017

Image
HEY!! So, I am back with another routine :) I've been establishing them as of late, so I decided to post 'em all! I've been trying my best to workout everyday, and I came up with a quick one that I have been doing. So feel free to try it out, if you like, and let me know how you did! Also, leave any tips and comments down below, let's help each other get FIT! Here's an inspirational pic I found on pinterest to get started :) So first, I put on the music, and put up my hair. I have a pump up playlist, and so I just press play on it, and then I'm off to the races! My first exercise is the stairs. I have a set of stairs that goes down to the basement, so I go up and down them four times (up and down = one time), doing 10 jumping jacks at the end. Then I repeat that three more times. It's actually pretty tiring, but with perseverance and the right music I do believe that you can do it!! :) Just don't think, and focus on the music. Then, I go i...

The World Has Gone Crazy - But You Don't Have To

Image
Hey peeps!! I'm late again, and I'm so sorry. Too much hw :( I'm just gunna get right into this post though. Enjoy :) It seems like the world has gone, for lack of a better term, crazy. And it also seems like there isn't much we can do it but hope it doesn't get worse. But we actually CAN help. Small steps add up to a lot. And that's what I want to talk about in today's post - ways you can make a difference in your own life, to better benefit the world. Not all hope is lost, guys :) 1. Stay Positive. This may seem small, but it can make all the difference in another person's life. If you just offer them a smile, or a few encouraging words, it can be the thing that gets them through the day. There's this quote I've been loving recently: Smiles are contagious. So go out and infect everyone you can!  I love this, because well, it's true. If someone smiles at me, that makes me happy no matter what mood I'm in. They are contagious - bu...

How To: Stay Motivated In The Winter Months

Image
Heeey y'all. Sorry I'm late again :/ I always think I'll have time to post on the weekends but I always have too much homework D: I have a little time now though, so I thought I'd try and post :) It's that time of year. It's dreary, dark, wet/snowy (depending on where you live I guess haha), and it seems to be a common theme, to lose inspiration during winter. BUT NO MORE!!! For I have come to you with 7 tips on staying inspired throughout winter!!! SO LEGGO!!! :) 1. Set goals. If you have something to work towards, I think it's much easier to get through these months. But even better, set goals that make you excited to get up in the morning. And write them down!! I'm going to do that right now in fact - and you should too. Scroll down to the comments and put 'em in, we can support each other in our endeavours to reach our full potential :) Okay so for the winter (so from now - January - until, like, March) my ...

How To: Start Your Day Motivated

Image
HEY! Happy new year! How are you all? So sorry I haven't posted recently. I've been busy the last like, 11 days haha. But I am back!! Anyways. School is starting up again (or for many, has started up already). I just started today! Back at it again. The break was so nice, but now it's time to get back in it and start workin' hard again! So because of this, I thought I'd try and help you all out with this post: how to start your day motivated!! So without further ado, let's get into it!! For my first tip, I'd say, go to the light first thing . Open up your curtains, and look outside for a few minutes. It'll make a world of difference, trust me. The sun just has a way of waking you up, y'know? Tip number two, is to have a healthy breakfast . This is really good to give you energy to start your day. You don't want to get halfway through and be hungry! So have a good, healthy, full breakfast (I will do another post on that ...

Life Update + Study Inspiration

HEEEY PEEPS. How are you all? Yes, yes I'm posting on a Saturday (this is instead of Sunday since I'm more free today haha). I am so, so, so sorry I haven't posted in so long!! School has just been so hectic, getting even closer to the holidays, that I just haven't had the time. So I thought I'd do a quick life update for you all, as well as study tips (which is just as much for me as you lol). So, I have joined the swim team. This isn't a new thing, however, I didn't do it last year, so I guess that's cool? Haha. I'm not the fastest swimmer, but I'm workin on it! It's really hard though, and I think it's gunna make me super fit :) We had practice today, and it was really tough. I was exhausted by the end, but my hope is that it will make me stronger!! Yeah? No? Maybe so? Lol. Okay it's been like a month since I last posted and tbh not much has happened. I started this post with the intention to update you all on my life thinking ...

Battling Writer's Block

HEY PEEPS!!! OMG I AM SO SORRY I HAVEN'T WRITTEN IN WEEKS!! To be honest, my last few weeks haven't been particularly interesting so there hasn't been much to write about. School, school, school, mostly. SO busy. But today is a chill today, homework and hanging out. So recently, I have been battling a little bit of writer's block. If you found this blog from my wattpad account, you'll note that I haven't updated since July. Early July. And I am SO sorry. I haven't had the inspiration, and I want my chapters to be good quality ones, so I've been trying to make it really good. Cam and Jess' date is surprisingly hard to write, even though I've been looking forward to writing it for a SUPER long time. If you have any ideas...feel free to let me know haha. I think I generally know what I'm doing now, but any ideas are greatly appreciated. If you haven't read my story and want to, here's the link: https://www.wattpad.com/story/4579804...

Positive Playlist

HALLO!!! So I realize that this post is a bit later than I intended...okay a lot later...I'm sorry!...but here it is!! So, a quick update on resolutions: I DEBATED AGAIN GUYS!!! It didn't go as well this time, since I didn't exactly reach the time limit...but I did have extremely short notice (like two minutes worth haha) so I think I did okay under the circumstances. But yeah, that was cool. Anyways. For my positive playlist! Here are some songs I have put into it: 1) Drag Me Down - One Direction: This one is just a really good pump up song, and it has some good messages. YES. NOBODY CAN DRAG ME DOWN!!!! :D 2) Never Enough - One Direction: This one is just a really upbeat song, that's really fun. 3) Feelin' It - Scotty McCreery: most of the songs on my positive playlist are pumps up songs, as I'm sure you can tell :) this is another fun song.  4) Show You - Shawn Mendes: This is just a really inspirational song I think, about doing you no matter...

Spreading positivity challenge

HELLO! How ya doin? So I've noticed that I've been posting about positivity quite a bit, so I decided to continue the trend, haha. My other posts have been about keeping yourself positive, though. This one is going to be about spreading it.  First, I just need to say something. I honestly don't understand why people feel the need to hate on people they've never met.  For example, celebrities.  Do you know how much hate they get on a daily basis? It's ridiculous! For goodness sakes, you don't even know the person! You don't know the first thing about them, you only know what is available on the Internet. I can assure you, there is so much more to them than that. You have no idea. So don't hate! Appreciate! So that's why I've decided to post this, and start this fun challenge. I'll post a bunch of different ideas to spread positivity, and I'll do them too. I want you to comment when you do them, or post a blog post a...

Saying yes and New Years Resolutions!

Hi guys! So today, I wanted to write a bit about new years resolutions (I know I'm a bit late for that, sorry!), and I'm also going to post about something new. So, recently, I read a really inspiring post by Zoella, from 2012 (yeah, I'm kind of behind the times on that :P). It's about just saying yes, and you can read it here if you want to. I wanted to write a similar post today, about just being positive, and saying yes in general. No matter who you are, or what your outlook on life is at the moment, I believe that saying yes is a good place to start on having more positive, happy and fun experiences. You never know what opportunities might come about, and you could be missing out on quite a bit if you take the outlook that the world is out to get you, and you say no to many different opportunities. I know people that have an extremely negative outlook on life, and I'm just going to say that it can be a bit depressing, and frankly, it can suck the life out o...
